Why register to vote?
The electoral register is the official list of everyone that is registered to vote.
If you are not registered then you will not be able to vote locally or in the upcoming General Election.
Many other organisations also use this register as ‘proof of address’, including credit agencies and banks when issuing credit cards, offering mortgages or opening accounts. Not appearing on the Electoral Register can also make it more difficult for you to get some official documentation.
You can download a form below to get on the electoral register for Portsmouth.
You do not have to vote if you are on the electoral register, but it does give you a voice in the City.
In order to register you must be 18 or over and be a British citizen, a British Commonwealth citizen, an Irish citizen or a European Union citizen. 16 and 17 year olds can also be added to the register but are not able to vote until they are 18.
